Looks like a black and white print of a sunrise but it’s not.
This photo was taken at 10.38pm on the 24th September 2011 when yet another storm was unfolding around us. The sheet lightning was so impressive I wanted to have a record of it and out of about 3 dozen shots, before the rain began again, I 'lucked out' with this one. I had to close my eyes to regain my night vision after taking this.
This is happening quite a lot lately and though I don't mind the rain some of the natural electrical activity that comes with it can be frightening.
Cheers,
Robyn

And the Winner is........

#17 - Tania@Out Back!

Sorry for the delay in the draw but it looks like Random.org has decided to charge a fee so I used the free Sequence Generator instead and compared it to my numbered hand written list then I copied and pasted it into my blogfile :).
Thanks to everyone who entered :D.

Cheers,
Robyn

Saving the Snow Leopard by Crafting

I couldn't be classed as a greenie or a tree hugger but I am a cat and animal lover as well as a crafter. A blog I visit had a message this morning that appealed to my sense of justice as it helps people learn new crafts and keeps them living in harmony with their furry neighbours, that they used to trap and kill in the past, as well as providing them with an income to help them live.
Please follow this link,
http://wethreecats.blogspot.com/2011/09/big-cats.html
watch the video, and decide if you want to vote, like I did, to help these villagers and their beautiful endangered co-residents. If this project wins it will receive a grant of USA$20,000, if 2nd or 3rd placegetter it will receive USA$10,000 to use to further the enterprise. Any of these amounts would greatly assist the project.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance to any of you who place a vote for this project that helps people and animals live together.

On My Mind......recycling, re-using, upcycling...

...call it what you like but it's better to find another use for something that has fulfilled it's original purpose than throw it in the rubbish, burn it or otherwise 'waste' it.

Before.....

and after.

I op-shop about fortnightly and if a fabric item is still there on my second visit then I figure someone has had a chance to obtain it for it's original purpose and now it is mine to redesign. Lately I've been in need of some shopping bags so I found a pattern online then modified it a bit as I have an overlocker(serger) and also the original pattern was a bit fussy. I have enough 100% cotton fabric left  for 3 more bags for gifts and a couple of button down cushions from the opening end of the doona cover J! Great value for $3 and my time.

See what's on other's minds at the Down To Earth blog!

If you’d like to be in my 100th post giveaway it’s here.

Cheers,
Robyn

Giveaway as I've passed 100 posts

Yes, I know there’s no FNSI photos yet but it’s not finished and I’m still tidying up after a girls sleepover. Lol, there were a couple of items left here too. Anyway, as I’m making Christmas presents for FNSI I decided that 5 FQ’s of Christmas material was a good giveaway at this time of year. The green leafy one actually has a very dark green background, not black as it looks in the photo and the blue fabric has silver trees not white. There will also be a few ‘extras’ thrown in to help with the decoration of whatever you make with them.
No frills - just leave a comment, international comments welcome too, and it finishes at 11.59pm the 27th September, AEST, as that is this blog’s 21 month anniversary. Winner announced late afternoon of 28th Sept as I’ll be at quilting group before then :D.
Cheers,
Robyn

On My Mind....Op-shopping

As a little reward for finally reaching 100 posts I bought myself a few things at my favourite op-shop – the Anglican Church one. I feel a bit guilty as the whole lot only cost me $3.05 because they were having a 50% off sale on clothing and fabrics.

This shirt is for me and it’s practically brand new. I like my shirts a bit big and loose in summer and usually prefer long sleeves so I don’t suffer sunburn.

I’ve been thinking it’s about time I made my first shirt that isn’t from stretch material and this fabric fits the purpose nicely. The zips are for other sewing projects (5c each :O) and I can always find a use for paper ribbon.

I bought this one for my grandson as green suits him and there’s Velcro tabs on the pockets so no frustrations there.

As I need to do a cleanout now that DD12 has grown so tall I know exactly where any donations are going to :D.

Cheers,
Robyn

Are you still with me???

Only a few comments of late but I guess those in the south of the planet are Spring cleaning and those in the north are unpacking the Winter things. It's that time of year.
Going shopping today and I'll have to peruse the craft stores for a few more items for the giveaway. It will be sooo difficult to not buy extra for myself, but I really don't need it, wellll - maybe just some stranded or pearl cottons. Lol, better put my walking shoes on then I can kid myself all the walking around town to different craft stores is helping me stay fit!
The giveaway will be posted Saturday.
Cheers,
Robyn :)

FNSI for September and ....

… my 100th post!

First things first though – do come and join us for Friday Night Sew In on the 16th September. You will find out why Heidi is stalking the mailman then! You can also see if I can manage to make another Christmas present without any muck ups this time! Lol, I think I’ll try
something flatter and less curvy.

OK, I think a giveaway is in order as I’ve finally managed a three figure number of posts but I’ll need to think about it between now and next FNSI. So the giveaway post will be the next one, probably on the 16th as I’ve been remiss with my blogging lately (and it gives me a few  days  to decide :P).

Cheers,
Robyn
